6ix9ine has made a surprising shift in his musical style, temporarily moving away from rap to release his third studio album, “Leyenda Viva.” The album showcases reggaeton music and is entirely in Spanish, consisting of 11 tracks with minimal collaborations. Notably, Latin Grammy-winning artist Lenier is featured on seven of the songs. For non-Spanish speakers, the album title translates to “Living Legend.”

One of the tracks featured on “Leyenda Viva” is “Y Ahora,” previously released as a single, drawing inspiration from regional Mexican music. The song is a collaboration with the Mexican band Guapo Firme.

This new album marks 6ix9ine’s first full studio release in three years, following his sophomore album, “TattleTales,” which was released in 2020. “TattleTales” debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, selling 53,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. However, there have been changes to Billboard’s rules since then, leading 6ix9ine to express his grievances against the publication. He criticized the rule that excludes merch bundles from counting towards chart placements, claiming that it was implemented after he sold over three million dollars’ worth of merchandise for his single “Gooba.” The veracity of this claim remains unclear.

Accompanying the album release, 6ix9ine also released a music video for his new single, “Pa Ti,” featuring female artist Yailin la Mas Viral. The visually stunning video shows the two artists performing in front of a luxurious house set in a tropical backdrop.

While this new musical direction from 6ix9ine has been in development for some time, it has faced criticism from some who accuse him of being a culture vulture, dabbling in rap when it suited him and then moving on to other genres. In response to the criticism, 6ix9ine has remained assertive, as he often does.

With “Leyenda Viva” and the release of “Pa Ti,” 6ix9ine continues to make waves in the music industry, showcasing his versatility as an artist and attracting both praise and critique along the way.
