Critics have praised Megan Thee Stallion’s raps for being witty and engrossing, and Good News has received a lot of positive press. Four singles were released from the album: “Girls in the Hood” on June 26, 2020; “Don’t Stop” with Young Thug on October 2, 2020; “Body” on February 3, 2021; and “Cry Baby,” a duet with DaBaby on the album. The remix of Suga’s track “Savage” with Beyoncé, which is featured on the album, gave Megan her first U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one single.
More than 100,000 album-equivalent units were sold during the first week of release, propelling Good News to its commercial peak of number two on the Billboard 200. It not only topped the charts for R&B/Hip-Hop albums and top rap albums, but it also entered the top 50 other nations including the UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. While promoting her next project Suga in October 2019, the rapper revealed her initial plans to release her debut studio album in 2020. She continued by saying she was “prepared to unwind with an album.” Suga was supposed to be Megan’s debut album, but due to legal disputes with her label, 1501 Certified, it was instead released on March 6, 2020 as an extended play (EP).
