English singer and actor Harry Styles dressed up as Dorothy on stage at Madison Square Garden for Halloween.
Dorothy is a fictional character created by American author L. Frank Baum as the protagonist in many of his Oz novels.
The character first appears in Baum’s classic 1900 children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and reappears in most of its sequels. In addition, Dorothy is the main character in various adaptations, notably the classic 1939 film adaptation of the novel, The Wizard of Oz.
Harry Styles is known for wearing skinny jeans, sheer blouses, floral prints, flamboyant suits and heeled boots during his time in One Direction.
Nicole Saunders of Billboard noted that Styles’ fashion had “blossomed from a teen wearing purple Jack Wills hoodies to a carefully executed blend of ’70s rock with a glamorous magpie feel” over the course of the group’s five-year stint.
Styles identifies as a feminist. The singer has shown support for the LGBT community by waving a rainbow flag onstage, wearing LGBT-themed clothing and supporting LGBT fans in concerts.
In 2018, his online store sold T-shirts with the slogan “Treat People With Kindness” in a rainbow print for Pride Month, with profits benefiting GLSEN.
