As if that weren’t enough with the releases that Jorrit has given us this year, our artist today has done his thing again, turning End Of Line Recordings upside down.
It is undeniable that this boy has a gift for making music. To this day, there are thousands of people around the world producing hardstyle, trying to get their songs to hit a ball in order to fully dedicate themselves to music. Within that group, there is only a small percentage of artists who finally get it, based on effort, time and talent. In turn, within the producers that release music for major labels and have thousands of listeners, there are really few who stand out in the vast majority of their appearances. We tell you this so that you realize how difficult it is to achieve sufficient quality to be in the world top of the genre.
Headhunterz, MYST, Sub Zero Project, Phuture Noize, Vertile, Sefa … And of course D-Sturb. Do you agree with us that Jorrit Popkema (D-Sturb) is a true raw genius? Contact us through social networks and tell us what you think, we will be reading you.
This year has been very good for D-Sturb. Obviously we cannot compare it to 2019, when he released the album “Synchronized” with his partner Warface, but in this 2021 he has released some very interesting singles.
At the beginning of the year he made his debut on Roughstate presenting “Dance With The Devil” with Ran-D and Xception, some time later he surprised with “Partystarter” alone, and in July he surpassed himself with the release of “Fire & Blood”. How could it be otherwise, in Loud Cave we published an article talking about “Fire & Blood”, so we leave it herein case you want to take a look at it.
It seemed impossible for this artist to continue releasing songs that surpassed even the previous ones, but his talent speaks for itself … On October 15th, “Wanna Stay” came out, a beautiful single that has stomped on the scene and has given it a breath of fresh air to the Warface hallmark.
We found out about the existence of “Wanna Stay” when D-Sturb himself uploaded a video to his personal YouTube channel clicking on his new ID in front of the Reverze Festival audience, and from that moment we knew that we were in front of one of the jewels of rawstyle all year round.
But, this track has not only made us fall in love… Look at the reaction that people had live when they heard this piece for the first time. The crowd reaction was brutal!
You might be wondering, what the hell would “Wanna Stay” have to be so good? Well, you are in luck, because with the analysis that we are going to make sure that all your doubts will be resolved.
Sometimes it is difficult to recognize when a hardstyle cut is original and when it follows an aesthetic that we are already tired of hearing. Nevertheless; It helps us to listen to the first ten seconds of this topic to notice that the innovation will be present during the three minutes of duration.
The only downside (to say the least) that we find to “Wanna Stay” is the vowel. It is undeniable that the female singer who stars in this piece has an angelic voice, and the message she expresses is very emotional. But, we’ve already heard this vowel on occasion (see DRS & Irradiate ft. Madsin – My Soul). It’s not necessarily a bad thing to use a sample, but we think that if D-Sturb had trusted one of their trusted singers to produce these lyrics from scratch, the result would have been even better.
That said, we recognize that 100% of the remaining items are magical. The first drop takes the euphoria to a totally different plane (as we have already appreciated in some of their old songs like “The Ultimate” or “World Out There”). The musical notes that make up the melody are perfectly placed, and the sounds that lead it have given us goosebumps. Go rawphoric!
Later, toughness takes the starring role in a very powerful second XTRA RAW drop. In recent months we have seen that it is becoming fashionable again to combine raw kicks with psytrance, as Sub Zero Project started doing years ago. An example of this would be Mutilator – Infernal. Jorrit has taken this idea and has taken it to his field obtaining an exquisite result.
We finish this track with a last part in which the structure of the first drop is repeated, although adding some really original dry kicks.
